The weird world of the $300 belt.

July 18, 2007

I’ve started a new job.

(I’m very happy about that by the way.)

I’m working in the Yorkville area of Toronto. I went into a store yesterday with my friend (who was looking for shoes).

I was surprised that there indeed is such thing as a $300 belt.
Three hundred dollars – for a piece of leather that loops into your pants to keep them from falling to the ground.

I’m not in that purchase bracket (if indeed the word “purchase bracket” can describe the state of mind someone would be in to purchase a $300 belt.)

Wow.

Tomorrow Chile plays Argentina.
It’s going to be a great game.

Vidangossy is an excellent player.

Argentina have been impressive the whole tournament.

Between the two teams they’ve only given up one goal. (That one was scored by Poland against Argentina.)

I thought the Mexico/Argentina game was going to be better than it was. We’ll see if Chile can solve the Argentinian defence – and stop the work of Banega in the midfield.

Canada in trouble

July 6, 2007

Canada lost 1-0 to Austria last night.

Teams are on to Canada.

What are they doing to stop the red and white? Covering Jaime Peters.

I only saw about 10 minutes of Canada’s game last night – i spent most of the night watching the Portgual – Mexico showdown in Toronto.

I did watch the last ten minutes (well, and injury time) of the Canadian game. By that point they were just hoping to get anything near the Austrian net.

Simeon Jackson had a glorious chance one on one with the Austrian keeper with a bouncing ball,  he made contact with it, tried to angle it around the keeper,  and he kicked it wide.
It was a speedy skilled move, but it didn’t connect. That play sort of summarized Canada’s tournament so far. Nothing has bounced their way, and they have had few chances, and have converted none of them into goals.

There’s one more game to go, against Congo. Canada is a long shot to make it to the second round, but there’s a chance.

Go out and win boys.
