Un, deux, trois, du miroir noir

March 1, 2007

When i first heard the new Arcade Fire i thought it was a long lost treasure from the goth days of the 1980s. Hell, for all I know about Bauhaus.

I was so pleasantly surprise to hear it was not only new, but Canadian, and Arcade Fire.

then i heard it again on the CBC radio 3 podcast… after an interview with the band.

You can hear it by going to the Arcade Fire site, clicking on “Win” and then on “black mirror”.

It’s good times.

POST SCRIPT: Shared the song with my coworker (or cowerker if we’re going all Bauhaus here) – he was okay with it. I tell you though, i’m digging this song – and i’m not talking ‘digg’ as in web 2.0, but dig as in lovin’ it old school.

UPDATE #2: Duh! I  should learn to spell “deux” correctly.  Still loving the song…

I’m sculpting my philosophy…

Hey hey hey hey hey hey hey – Awooooooooo!

Oh man oh man, I’m loving This sentence will ruin/save your life by the Midland Toronto Ontario band, the born ruffian.

I heard it first on the CBC radio 3 podcast a few weeks back.

It is so kick ass. The guitar, the sparse lyrics, the desperation in the singer’s voice. Okay, perhaps it’s not desperation, maybe just despondency of buying your guitar strings in Midland and strumming your guitar on the town dock while the tourists take pictures from the Miss Midland.

Just have to say – and this is about being toronto based – boys, don’t turn your backs on Huronia. It’s about time there was a solid rock band from Huronia. But all of this talk of where the born ruffians are from, well  it doesn’t matter – This sentence will ruin/save your life is great.

See Vous Play

October 2, 2006

Caught CBC Radio 3’s See Vous Play concert last night at the Kool Haus in Toronto.

Les Breastfeeders, Emily Haines, Les Trois Accords, and Joel Plaskett all played.

I really enjoyed Les Trois Accords. Prior  to last night, the only thing i knew about their home town of Drummondville was that little Nicky, one of the kids  in the movie/story the dog who stopped the war came from there.

Last night the boys from Drummondville played really well in their Toronto debut.
